Leading watch making innovation with revolutionary ideas such as the quartz watch and the kinetic movement watch, Seiko has been a world leader in watch making. The Seiko name was adopted over 40 years after the establishment of the company. Before Seiko watches was the Siekosha brand, manufactured and distributed by K. Hattori and Co. Kintaro Hattori, the founder of Seiko watches, began with a clock shop in the Ginza district of Tokyo in 1881. Only 20 years after the Japanese adopted the solar time system, Seiko already had successfully produced its first timepieces. The company then began to expand from wall clocks to pocket watches and alarm clocks. Finally in 1913, Hattori is able to unveil Seikosha's first wrist watch and the history of Seiko watches begins. Seiko watches have gone through many revolutions and have evolved into fine timepieces recognized all over the world. The Seiko brand has been the official time keeper of several Olympic Games as well as World Cup Soccer Championships. Seiko watches were the first to introduce LCD quartz watches with six-digit digital display as well as multifunction LCD watches. The quartz revolution caused by Seiko watches was so popular and such a success that many European mechanical watch makers were forced to either change to the quartz system or go out of business. The innovations brought about by Seiko as well as the recognition it receives are unrivaled. Seiko watches provide quality and reliability backed by history and tradition. Seiko Watches
